What it covers
Storm repair is the big tent. It holds torn roofs, smashed windows, water inside, wind-tossed trash harm, and the mold that trails wet walls. In Pensacola the usual chain is wind harm up top, water harm inside, and fixes last. Know the chain and you will not pay twice. There is no sense in fresh paint below a roof that still leaks.
The right order
1. Urgent cover: tarps, boards, pump-outs. Stop the harm from growing. Do this in hours. Your insurer makes you do it and pays fair costs back.
2. Full check: once it is stable, map it all: roof, walls, inside, wires, pipes. Hidden harm (wet fill, weak deck) is what wrecks budgets later.
3. Claim and scope: file your claim with the Florida claim steps. Get the adjuster's scope in writing. Get your own quotes to match.
4. Lasting fixes: roof first, then shell (siding, windows), then inside (walls, floors, paint). Each coat needs the one above it dry.
Pensacola notes
Florida code is strict on wind. Fixes, most of all roofs, must tend to meet today's code. That can mean more than a patch, like new deck nails. Permits tend to be a must for frame and roof work in Escambia County. Ask who pulls the permit. The answer should be the pro, not you. Work with no permit can hurt cover and a later sale.
Hire safe
Each trade needs a Florida license: roof, build, wire, pipe. Check each at myfloridalicense.com. Get scope, price, and pay plan in writing first. Read how to dodge scams before you sign. This site refers no pros and takes no referral fees. Florida Statute 489.147 bans referral fees on insurance-payout jobs, and we stay out of that trade for good.
Next steps
Photo it all with the damage list. File your claim fast. Stop worse harm. Check each license yourself. If a federal disaster is declared, see FEMA aid too.
