Shelters and evacuation
When evacuations are ordered, the county posts shelter sites through Emergency Management. The list shifts with each storm. Check myescambia.com or call (850) 471-6400. Do not trust old lists. Learn your evacuation zone before storm season on the county site.
After the storm
After a big storm, the county may post debris drop sites. It may open online damage forms. These aid the county's bid for a federal declaration. They are not your claim. Do both. The county may also link aid groups like the Red Cross. Watch myescambia.com news after landfall.
Flood maps
Basic home policies do not cover floods. That takes a separate NFIP flood policy. See if your home sits in a flood zone at FEMA's Map Service Center: msc.fema.gov. The county notes you do not need to live near water to flood.
